How the system works

2. log scanning: As the log travels on the conveyor, it passes through a scanning station equipped with multiple laser scanners. This station creates a detailed profile of the log, measuring its exact shape, diameter, and length, and can even detect internal defects.
3. Optimization software: Sophisticated software, such as heuristic and dynamic programming algorithms, processes the data and compares the log's characteristics with a mill's current product orders. The software determines the optimal cutting solution to achieve the highest possible value from the log while minimizing waste.
4. Automatic sawing: The optimization data is sent to the cross-cutting saw, which automatically and precisely cuts the log into the specified lengths. For sawmills, this might mean cutting logs into cants or sections for further processing. For panel board mills, this ensures that the cut-to-length timber is sized correctly for further conversion into engineered wood products like OSB or particleboard.
